In 1985, the miraculous French pianist Michel Petrucciani signed with a newly relaunched Blue Note Records and recorded his label debut Pianism, an album that underscored the arrival a distinctive new talent. His second Blue Note release, Power Of Three, presented Petrucciani in a duo with guitarist Jim Hall and a trio that added saxophonist Wayne Shorter.
Recorded live at the 1986 Montreux Jazz Festival, the album captured a magical evening of music-making by three virtuosos. The five-song LP features the trio on a trio of originals — Shorter's "Limbo," Petrucciani's "Morning Blues," and Hall's "Bimini" — while the duo is heard on Hall's "Careful" and a stunning version of Ellington's "In A Sentimental Mood."
This stereo Tone Poet Vinyl Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray (Cohearent Audio) from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at Record Technology Inc. and packaged in a deluxe tip-on jacket.
