Johnson reunited with longtime Beastie Boys producer Mario Caldato Jr., after previously working together on 2003’s On and On. He said in an interview that the title was a reference to peaceful downtime. “Tours are like dreams — these surreal adventures I go on,” Johnson explained. “But my reality is back home in Hawai’i. It’s where I feel like my normal self. I love touring and doing all of this exciting stuff. But when I was recording the record back in my garage in Hawaii I was in between two dreams (or) tours.”
