"This record was recorded in many different locations. A closed down bookshop, my apartment, the studio and our friend Brandi Carlile's house, who sang on a couple of songs. There are a lot of traveling songs on it, quiet songs, and bigger songs with big string arrangements. It took about a year to make. I called it "This Empty Northern Hemisphere" because that's what the songs feel like to me. I think its about leaving, and coming home and growing up. And we had so much fun making it."
