With Mama's Gun, Erykah Badu takes another giant step into the left-field with less delirious results with a sophisticated hybrid of jazz, blues, soul and hip-hop. Her confessional lyrics cover themes of insecurity, personal relationships, and social issues. Like a good mother, Erykah attempts to wean her Gen-X hip-hop fans from the baby food of programmed beats and synth bass of her debut record, to the greens and cornbread of live drums and bass of this psychedelic 70's, concept-based sound.
The album features the singles "Bag Lady", "Didn't Cha Know?" and "Cleva".
